For cutting precariously placed trees, Rajendran, Panavila, Vellaikkadavu, Thiruvananthapuram has his own technique – using discarded scooter tyre.  Using this technique, this woodcutter of 15 years experience is able to bring the pieces of wood safely to the ground.

A few feet from the top of the tree he ties the old tyre.  A rope is then tied to the tree above the tyre.  This rope is taken through the tyre to the ground where his assistant would hold it tight.  He cuts the tree at a portion between the tyre and the knot.  After cutting ¾ of the girth, he climbs down and starts pulling the piece using another rope tied to the top of the log.

As the piece breaks, it hangs by the 1st rope passing through the tyre.  By slowly easing the rope, the log can be brought safely to the ground.
