Anju Jayakumar, Aakkottu Veedu, Sarkara, Chirayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram.

Another feather in the cap of Anju Jayakumar, 4th standard student of NSS English Medium School, Chirayinkeezhu!  She has won the gold medal and a trip to New York with family for her entry in the painting competition organized by Sankar’s International, New Delhi.  She has won the medal in the 8 – 10 years category.

Last year she had been runner up in the international poster competition organized jointly by NCERT and UN Population Fund.

Anju is the daughter of T.Jayakumar and G.S.Sindhu, Aakkottu Veedu, Sarkara, Chirayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram.

Anju was born with the boon of lines and colours.  As she showed early signs of interest in art, her father, himself an artist, used to buy her brushes and paint more than toys.

Her early guide was Rama, a teacher in her school.  While studying in UKG, she won the 1st prize in a competition organized by Chirayinkeezhu Grama Panchayat and Social Welfare Department.  This exposure lead to the meeting with her future guru, Vakkam Mani, who in fact came searching for the disciple.

However Anju jas not started learning painting formally.  That can wait for some more time, feel the parents.  Anju’s father is a plumber and is finding it difficult to manage the household and meet the expenses in connection with his daughter’s talent.

The parents are trying to get some scholarship for the education of their daughter.
