After viewing an exhibition of 150 cartoons done by 11-year-old Bimal, a man expressed a doubt: “were these cartoons drawn by this lad?”

“I immediately drew 2 cartoons and showed that uncle,” says Bimal.  “And he thrust Rs.200 into my pocket and said it is a present to buy pens, pencils and cryons.”

Such gifts aren’t new for Bimal, Puthenparambil, Karuvelippadi, Kochi.  His parents accidentally noticed their son’s natural gift when as a 7 -year-old he drew a picture of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao.  Later he started drawing whatever came into the field of his observation.

Often the family discusses ideas for the cartoon together.  And as soon as the theme is finalized, his pen would start converting them into lines.

This 7th standard student of Choice School, Thrippunithura has busy days during Christmas.  Friends press him to design their greeting cards.  Even teachers sometimes make use of his talents.

Says renowned cartoonist E.P.Unny: “He has not only the ability to draw but the humour needed for the cartoonist.”
