Reinterpreting the 6 cantos and 12000 verses long Kambar’s Ramayana in Malayalam is the penance-like task being undertaken by the retired teacher K.Sreedharan Nair, Sakthi Nikethan, Panikker’s Lane, Sasthamangalam, Thiruvananthapuram.

89-year-old Sreedharan Nair has almost completed the task of clothing in Malayalam the epic of the poet-saint.  In the introduction he mentions the key differences between Kambar’s and Valmiki’s epics as well as a life sketch of the author.

According to him the earlier prose translations of the epic do not do justice to the original.  Some of them are even based on hearsay.

Sreedharan Nair is in the process of setting up a ‘Kambar National Foundation’ in Thiruvananthapuram.  His effort of translation was recently appraised and appreciated by a learned gathering.
