K.S.Moni, Publicity Officer in State Planning Board scans newspapers everyday not to pick up news.  Rather he is looking if there are any critically ill patients needing blood.

During the last 34 years, Mani has donated blood 100 times.

It was an incident that occurred decades ago that set him on the path of sharing blood.  In his student days he met with an accident that caused injuries to his head and spine.  For 3 days he was unconscious in the Medical College.  The timely gesture of his friends, who gave blood for his treatment, was a major factor in bringing him back to normal life.  Later he remembered this incident while reading an appeal for blood in a newspaper.

“I started donating blood then.  Now I have done it 100 times,” he says simply.

He has received many awards for his gesture.  Those from International Red Cross Society and State Government’s award for best social worker-1996, are 2 of them.

Mani is a writer too.  He writes often in periodicals.  His book, ‘Power of Black’ is nearing completion in the press.
