If Padmakumaran Nair is in the driver’s seat, then the commuters heave a sigh of relief.  For this cautious and punctual driver is sure to take them to their destination with the least discomfort possible.  And this model driver of KSRTC has recently been conferred the State award for the best employee / driver.

His house at Kaipparikkonam, Arappura, near Vattiyoorkavu, Thiruvananthapuram has a heap of such awards and citations.  Some for the 12 years of service in the Army and others for the 20 years he has put in at KSRTC.

During his career in the Army he waon 6 awards / medals including good service entries.

After joining KSRTC he got the 1st award for his honesty in reporting the cash-laden wallet found in the bus.  The 2nd was for his hardwork to help the pilgrims during the Sabarimala season in Pamba route.

And now the 3rd award has come as a crowning glory.  During the 20 years of service he has been able to drive punctually, without any accident and in a manner pleasing to the travelers.

If there is heavy rush in the bus, the conductor need not get perturbed.  Padmakumaran Nair will himself come down from the driver’s seat and rearrange the standing commuters in an orderly manner.

After retirement from service few months hence, he plans to pursue driving.  For he has around a 1000 disciples whom he has taught the art of driving.

At present he is Special Grade driver at Peroorkada Depot, Thiruvananthapuram.
