Love of agriculture prompted him to seek voluntary retirement from Central Government service in 1988.  And recognition for his efforts in his 1.94-hectare farm came recently when the State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank chose him as model farmer at district level.

Purushothaman Nair, Kilimanoor, Thiruvananthapuram, does integrated farming, cultivating coconut, pepper, banana, vegetables, tapioca etc in his farm.  In addition, he maintains cows, goats, honeybees, chicken and fish to supplement his income.

He generates different organic manure like green compost and earthworm-compost.  Using only the green manure, he cultivates 1-hectare portion of his land.

He has built check dam to conserve rainwater.  There is a well and pump for irrigation.

He says he gets loans for his work from the Kilimanoor Agriculture and Rural Development Bank without difficulty and in time.

His wife is Santhamma and children, Anil Kumar and Anitha Kumari.
