One could introduce Dileep Jose as a student of Journalism and Mass Communication at St.Xavier’s College, Thiruvananthapuram.  But that would be only half the picture.  For during spare time and at night he would be in the deep sea, fishing to feed his family consisting of mother and 2 brothers.

From the time he was a student of Pre-Degree, Dileep has been accompanying fishermen their catamaran.  Although he used to feel seasick initially, he later became accustomed to the rocking sea.

After fishing, the catamaran would return to the Puthenthope beach by daybreak.  Then he would sell the catch either wholesale or retail.  He would then return the boat and net taken on hire.  After returning to his small hut, he would take bath and rest for a while before getting ready for his other role: student of journalism.

Even if Dileep comes to class a little late, the teachers pardon him. For they know the personal sorrows of one forced to shoulder the responsibility of a family at the age of 22.
