Solo exhibitions at Chennai and Mumbai among other places, group shows at Kerala Kalapeetom and Galleria Mareechika, Kochi and Malayala Kalagramam, New Mahe, illustrations for India Today, Chatterbox and Bhashaposhini, CCRT scholarship for painting from the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, these are some of the worthy achievements of Santhy, a teenage artist now studying at Kendriya Vidyalaya, CLRI, Chennai.

Born in April 86, she took to painting as a nursery student.  When the tiny tot’s works caught the attention of her father’s friend, he insisted that she be sent for training at Kerala Kalapeetam, the 3-decades-old art centre of Kochi.

In the informal yet enriching environment of Kalapeetam, she gained confidence and expertise under the guidance of accomplished artist Kaladharan.

At the age of 8, she took the plunge into oil paintings and the ripples of that plunge were soon to be felt far and wide.

Within 1 year, at the suggestion of Kaladharan, her 1st solo painting exhibition was held at Kochi.  The response was positive and the 9-year-old received encouraging reviews.

Later she held solo exhibitions at Chennai (1999) and Mumbai (2001), which too were well received by connoisseurs and critics.

Over the years her lines grew bolder, the strokes firmer and the colour schemes more contained and mature.  She developed more than just a style.

She is however modest about her talent: “I paint whatever comes to my mind and whenever I feel like it.  But above all, because I like it.”
