After scoring first rank in M.Phil in Modern Technical Economics from Cochin University of Science and Technology and undergoing internship at a Technopark firm, Resmi could have chosen a job of her liking.  Instead she chose to serve vagabond street children arriving at Thiruvananthapuram.

Resmi’s father Mathai was an employee of FACT.  But the people of their locality knew him more as the owner of a medical shop that used to act as good Samaritan to poor patients.  To such indigent persons, Mathai used to provide free medicines.  It was in such a background of social work and sharing that Resmi grew up at home.

She was good at studies, and in addition, used to find time and interest to visit orphanages and assist them.  Mother Teresa was her role model.  She used to consider Mother as a Living Saint.

Childline is a project of the Central Government to help wandering and assaulted children.  By calling 1098 from anywhere in India, help of voluntary hands can be had for the victims and their near ones.

In Thiruvananthapuram this office is located at Don Bosco Bhavan.  It acts as a safe haven for children found loitering in the streets of the city.  At any time there will be about 20 children here.  And Resmi is the mother and elder sister to the children here.

To the children who end up at Don Bosco Bhavan without experiencing love in their original homes, coming face to face with the love and care of Resmi is an uplifting experience.  “When a hungry child coming here is fed to his satisfaction, one must see his face shining with happiness.  That sight is equivalent to seeing God”, she says.

Her husband Joseph George is software professional at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram.  He has been a pillar of strength and support for Resmi in her social activities, she considers.
