At a time when the price of yellow metal is sky-rocketing like never before, anyone into whose hands about 30 sovereigns come without the asking is likely to think twice before locating the actual owner and returning it.  However, for Muhammed Rafeeq, Puthiya Purayil, Kolathara, Kozhikode, an autorickshaw driver in the city, no such thought tempted him as he promptly returned the gold found in his vehicle to its legitimate owner.

A group that had attended a function at Hotel Nalanda boarded his auto to reach the railway station.  After leaving them at the destination, Rafeeq drove another passenger to the bus stand.  It was there that he found a bag in the back seat of his vehicle.  On opening he realized that it was full of gold ornaments.  He deduced that the group from Nalanda must have forgotten it in the vehicle.

He went immediately to the railway station, where the nonplussed group was coming to terms with the loss.  He handed over the bag containing gold to them in the presence of Railway Police.  Rafeeq, who has been driving auto in the city for the past 7 years, has on many occasions found such articles in his auto.  And each time he has returned such valuables to the owners.
