To those who end up in Kozhikode city on a hartal day, Hunters' Club members are the Good Samaritans.  They wait at Railway Station and Bus Stand, ready to use their motorbikes to transport those who are stranded due to lack of vehicles.

In addition, incidence of fire in the city, marriage of poor families etc sees them active with their helping hands and bikes.

It was two years ago that 50 young persons met to form the Hunters’ Club.  Though the youth profess different political opinions, this doesn’t interfere with their voluntary work.  Initially, the club was formed as a mutual help forum but later expanded its activities to social issues.

If they started their social action in connection with the fire at S.M.Street, Kozhikode, it was a hartal one year back that brought them to the notice of the public.  That day, the members brought out their bikes and helped stranded passengers reach their homes safely and free of cost.  Since then they have been active during all the hartal days.

Although many are willing to pay for the ride, they do not accept it, says Jayesh, the Club President.

They visit Old Age Homes and Destitute Homes to be of help.  And they arrange coaching for poor children in their studies.

The Club membership has now reached 100.  All are in the age bracket of 18-30.  Only those who are willing to do voluntary service are admitted as members.  Once a week, the members meet and review their activities.
