Cherukulathoor Village in Peruvayal Panchayat, which had earlier won a name for itself for eye donation, has added another feather in its cap.  This time it is in the effort to equip poor and unprepared youth to appear successfully in PSC exams.

It was in 2004 that the youth of the village formed ‘Royal’ Self Help Group.  The focus of the Group was primarily on helping to the underprivileged.  Later it shifted its focus to help the youth realize the dream of becoming Government employees.

It was during this time that application to the post of Mazdoor in Electricity Board was invited by PSC.  Knowing that the essential qualification for the job was the ability to climb posts, the Group started preparing applicants from June 2005 onwards.  Bereft of classroom or office, the Group had to depend on the goodwill of the Manager of Cherukulathoor East UP School for conducting evening classes.

The group took initiative to enroll about 40 novices as applicants.  The organizers secured the application forms and filled them up.  During the 6 months training, 13 model exams were conducted for the participants and 24 of them ended up in PSC rank list.  Already 16 of them have been appointed.

Later the Group turned to coaching for the posts of KSRTC Last Grade, LDC, Police Constable etc.  In most of these cases, their candidates have found a place in the PSC rank list and few have even been appointed.  At present 35 persons are undergoing training at the centre.

The Group collects a very nominal fee towards cost of electricity for night classes and preparation of question papers.  Group President T.P.Rajesh is the leader behind the preparatory class
