Some walk along the path cleared by the pioneers, while few others clear the path for future users.  Dr.Rajan, who set out to develop the infant branch of infertility treatment in Kerala, belongs to the second breed.  His corpus of output includes contribution as teacher, doctor and author.

After obtaining MD in gynecology, Dr.Rajan was selected to undergo a WHO training in infertility in 1973-74.  It was this exposure that prompted him to stick to the specialty of infertility.

When laparoscopy was introduced in Kerala in 1978, he became one of the first surgeons.  However, he was handicapped by the absence of an authoritative Indian book on endocrinology and infertility.  Dr.Rajan’s answer was to author a text on the subject titled ‘Post Graduate Reproductive Endocrinology’.  Further he published more than 200 papers in the Journal of Indian Medical Association and Indian Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Following this exposure, many medical colleges across the country invited Dr,Rajan to teach post graduates.  He has taught in South Indian states, Punjab, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Bengal and has traveled to all other states in connection with such courses.

The result of his treatment, papers, teaching assignments etc culminated in Dr.Rajan authoring 22 books in the field of infertology.  He has the distinction of being the president of the Gynecologists’ Society of India.

He lives in Kottayam with his wife Vasantha.  His son Mithun is a software engineer in Chennai and his daughter Namitha is an embryologist in Sweden.
