“There is nothing more noteworthy for a doctor to do than to save atleast one life,” says Chittanttinkara Krishna Pillai, the octogenarian ayurveda healer of Thiruvananthapuram, who has had occasions in his long career, of curing even those patients, who had been abandoned by all systems of treatment.

Diseases like Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), insufficient functioning of the tear gland, liver malfunctions, ATP etc, which have limited treatment in modern medicine, have been treated by him.  The methods of treatment for these diseases have been taken from ancient texts and are not his contributions, he says.  According to advocate Philip M.Prasad, it was Vaidayan, who enabled him to walk after being laid up with spinal chord disfunction.  And writer Chandramathi attests to the successful treatment for the unbearable difficulties associated with dried up tear glands.

81-year-old Krishna Pillai is the latest link in the centuries-old ayurveda tradition of the Chittattinkara family.  His tutelage started at the feet of his own father.  Later he completed the Vaidya Kalanidhi and Netra Vaidya Visarad courses at Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram.  In 1948, he started practicing.  Since then it has been patients, treatment and compassion, that have been the corner stones of his life.

As someone who scrupulously follows the purity of the treatment, he is loath to advice patients to buy medicines from shops.  The ingredients are supplied from his Vaidyasala.  The details of preparation too are provided by him.  The patients just have to boil the same and concentrate it to required quantity.

Last year, he underwent a check up for cardiac block.  Based on the diagnosis that inferred 3 blocks, Vaidyan did his own ayurveda treatment.  And now he feels no difficulty.
