He hadn’t brought any gold ornaments when he came to work in a bank in Qatar in 1978.  However, the love of yellow metal prompted Babu John to purchase one to quench his desire.  So he went to a shop and gave an order.  In return he received a piece of paper which directed him to collect the item within 120 days.

That day he thought hard about starting such a shop himself.  Without much fuss, in a rented room with 2 workers, Babu John laid the foundation of Sky Group of jewellary and other business.  And the Rs.350 crore turnover firm, which now employs 650 in its rolls has been the result of continuous effort across the years.

Addition of imported machine-designed jewellary from Dubai and wholesale dealings led to the accelerated growth of the venture.  In the meanwhile, he had started a construction company too.  And with that, he resigned the post in the bank in 1982.

Based on the business contacts in Dubai, Sky opened its branch there in 1989.  Since then, it did not have to look back.

Nor did he neglect to think of his native land.  Following shops at Chengannur and Punaloor, the group has a 1,05,000 sq.ft shopping complex at Thiruvalla.

Textile shop at Chengannur, gold workshop at Dubai, wrist watch manufacturing unit at Hong Kong, the venture is diversifying into different fields.

While he considers hard work and ability to take risk as factors for success, he attributes a more significant place to the Grace of God.
