The path that Ramachandran has chosen to wash the guilt off his consciousness is to prepare and distribute lunch to the mental patients at the District Hospital at Kollam.

Ramachandran, an ex-policeman who joined the service at the age of 18, soon got entangled in a murder. Even without any enmity with the killed person, on the spur of a moment, he committed the crime that sent him to the wrong side of law. As the court observed it to be a rare case among the rare, he was sentenced to death by the District Court. As even the Supreme Court upheld the judgment, Ramachandran was shifted to the condemned cell and his name struck off from the Police Department.

But a transformation was awaiting him in the jail. Even during the trials, he had courted the punishment willingly by sticking to unalloyed truth in his disposition. As he counted his days in the jail, a reprieve in the shape of death sentence being commuted to life imprisonment came as a surprise gift to him. Ramachandran wanted to make best use of the new lease of life given to him. He became the priest of the jail temple and devoted a considerable time of his for reading every day. It was this that made him attracted to the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

A lady, Prameela, came forward to marry the convict who was on parole. Although judiciary had punished him for the crime, Ramachandran wanted to do good karma to repent for his grievous mistake. Thus has he chosen to prepare and distribute food for the mental patients in association with the Sai Narayana Sevalayam, Lakshmi Nada.

51-year-old Ramachandran has a wish. Those who are absolved of their crimes are eligible for reappointment as per Kerala Government Order. He wishes that he too would be eligible for the provision and would be able to act as a model policeman for at least one day.
