The boy who had met death at close quarters at the age of 3 and who in the bargain suffered the paralysis of his left limbs has been toiling for the treatment of poor heart and kidney patients by collect donations in a plastic bucket.

Janeesh was rushed to the Medical College, Alappuzha after a bunch of coconuts fell on his head.  After a few days of frantic efforts, the doctors declared his case as beyond hope but then a nurse detected the faint pulse of life in the boy and called in the doctors again.  Slowly he recovered, though he could hardly sit straight.  As the years rolled by, he grew up but with the left limbs stunted and paralysed.

Last year, he attended his community’s public meeting on behalf of his father.  At this meeting a fisherman’ request for contributions towards the surgery of his son was read out.  Hearing this, Janeesh thought of doing something for the unfortunate boy.

Even as a small boy he had been fond of Gandhiji’s teachings, which he used to hear over the radio.  He made up his mind to collect donations in whatever small denominations that the donors were willing to give.

Armed with a plastic bucket, he used to go around, collecting money for the of the unknown benefactor.  Once he was apprehended by the police at Chertala, thinking that it was a fraud played on the gullible.  After they confirmed the veracity of his story, the policemen themselves contributed Rs.20 to his noble cause.

In the meanwhile, his father fell from a coconut tree and was hospitalized for 5 months.  Still, he carried on with the mission.  As more and more people came to know his story, the contributions increased and finally an amount of Rs.50000 could be collected for the young boy’s surgery.

As Janeesh’s humanitarian effort became known in wider circles, he was besieged with more such demands.  His broken bucket in the crippled hand has been able to attract some contributions for these unfortunate persons also.
