In the warp and weft of saris, he weaves intricate designs.  And his ‘Geethopadesam’, 28 inch by 22 inch in size and woven entirely by hand, has fetched him the State award for master weaver.  Ramachandran, Puthen Veettil, Charuvila, Payattuvila, Neyyattinkara is one of the 100 weavers chosen from the State under a Centrally sponsored scheme to locate master weavers. And it was from among works of these 100 weavers that the best creation in sari was chosen.

For 45-year-old Ramachandran weaving is a family tradition.  He first learned the art while studying in 6th standard. After learning the art from his father, for the past 15 years he has accepted weaving as his profession.  There are 7 assistants to help him in the work.

He is sad that those who work in the weaving field are reluctant to pass on their knowledge to the next generation.

Many people come to him to get new designs for wedding sarees etc.  According to him, his 'Geethopadesam' is the largest such design in sari in Kerala.
