Those who frequent Sakeena Mohammed Ali’s tailoring shop at Kuttichira, Kozhikode, come more often in search of  the marriage matchmaker rather than the tailor.  And Sakeena, who has arranged 400 plus marriages without charging any broker fee, is ever ready to help them.

It all started with a simple networking effort she did for 2 neighbours.  When the marriage was solemnized in 3 weeks, with minimum effort from her side, she realized how simple it all was.

Anxious parents from even Vatakara and Wayanad come to seek her services.  And sometimes, the help sought isn’t matrimonial alone.  For all issues connected with women in Kuttichira, Sakeena’s help is sought.  When a woman traveler faints on the roadside, her help is sought to take the patient to the hospital and then leave her at her home.

Among her 400 odd beneficiaries is an old woman in her 60s who too wanted to get married.  On enquiry it became evident that the old lady’s husband had died along ago and her 2 children were now settled in UK and USA.  To cut the long story short, thanks to Sakeena’s effort, a 75-year-old man came forward to marry her and put an end to her loneliness.

For her matchmaking effort she has to make long distance telephone calls and visit many places.  Even though the telephone bills keep mounting, Sakeena is happy providing the service.  She doesn’t charge anything for her service but just accepts whatever is given by grateful parents.  That too she uses for the marriage of poor girls.

Her husband Mohammed Ali, a businessman, has a positive attitude towards the service activities of his wife.

“The Lord shows the way.  I just do the networking,” she says about her effort.
