Jayachandran Unnithan.B.U, an employee of the Southern Railway, Coonoor, has won the Prime Minister’s Rs.1 lakh ‘Sram Bhooshan’ award.
Jayachandran, who is a Senior Section Engineer in the Coonoor Railways, had made leadership contribution in the conversion of steam engine to run on furnace oil and trained lube oil. This was achieved without losing the ancient beauty of the steam engine.
Jayachandran is the son of Bhaskaran Unnithan and Omanakkutty Amma, Idasseril Veettil, Kudassanad. His wife is Subha and children, Jayakrishnan and Jayaprasad.
