While working as a teacher with a post graduate degree in Mathematics, Sherin had never imagined that she would one day come to the field of tissue culture and plant nursery.

Her ‘Hafi Orchids’ started as a hobby in 1992 with 150 orchids and Rs.5000 as investment, today includes 50000 orchids.  In the beginning, her activities at the A.V.T.Women’s Orchid Club and the campaign by Horticultural Products Development Corporation enabled her to pick up the clients.

The 1st floor of her house at Kalamassery, Kochi is the tissue culture lab while the 60-cent land around the house is the nursery.  12 varieties of plantain, 5 varieties of roses, many leafy plants, orchids and anthurium have been developed in the lab.

Nellikkunnel Shaji had purchased a tissue culture plantain sapling from her.  When this had yielded a bunch weighing 35 kilos, Sherin was perhaps more happy than the proud owner.

Her husband Ashraf, and sons Hafiz and Harun are her teammates in the lab and the nursery.
