Two of his well known books are from entirely different fields: one, ‘Medicinal Plants of India’, published by Sanskrutha Sansthan under Ministry of HRD, Government of India and the second, ‘Purana Vichitra Katha Sagaram’ dealing with the bizarre in the Puranas.  Dr.C.K.N.Nair, the author of these works is a man of many facets.

84-year-old Dr.Nair completed his graduation from Travancore University and post graduation from a Chinese University, thanks to the efforts of his mentor, Divan Sir C.P.Ramaswamy.  Later he obtained his doctorate from Cornel University, USA.  After undergoing training in radio isotopes he came back to India to work in the first radioactive tracer lab outside Atomic Energy Commission.  His research in the field of Carbon and Germanium Chemistry won much international acclaim during this time.

After being appointed in the Rubber Board, his contributions naturally turned to agriculture.

From Rubber Board he moved on to become the Principal of Agriculture College and the Commissioner of Agricultural Research.  In 1962 he was appointed special officer to formulate project report for setting up the Kerala Agriculture University.  His report was fully accepted and the University became a reality.  Nair was a member of the Syndicate for a long time.

In 1972 he came back to Rubber Board as Director of Rubber Research Institute of India.  Under his leadership the Institute achieved an accelerated growth.  Even after retirement from service in 1982, he had been active as a consultant in the field of rubber till recently.

His romance with letters became stronger after retirement and he has penned half a dozen titles so far.  The latest one by this devotee of Sri Krishna is titled ‘Panchali Dukha Nivaranam’.

His wife is Rugmini Amma and children Dr.N.Ramesh Nair, Dr.N.Suresh Nair and Dr. N.Usha Nair.  Dr.Nair carries on a contented retired life dedicated to letters and spiritual quest at Payyappadi, Kottayam
