The technique of tapping rubber once a week or thrice in a fortnight, developed by Dr.K.R.Vijayakumar, Joint Director at Rubber Research Centre, Puthuppally has been given recognition at the International Rubber Research  and Development Board, Kuala Lumpur.   He has been appointed as liaison officer of the international Exploitation Group to coordinate the research at international level and organize seminars and workshops. The appointment is for 2 years.

By restricting tapping to just one day in a week, the manufacturing cost of rubber can be saved up to 70%, besides extending the life of the trees.  This technique, which has been in the experimental stage in many countries for the past 20 years, has been successfully implemented by Dr.Vijayakumar in 31 major estates.

The Malaysian board has informed that the new appointment is in recognition of these achievements.
