As librarian at Kerala University he was serving readers with the custodianship of books but after retirement he is serving them with his own books based on bhakthi.

Ayyappan Pillai, Parasuvaikkal, Thiruvananthapuram has so far published half a dozen books on temples and temple-related topics during the last decade.  His first book was a collection of poems, ‘Chaitra Pournami’, brought out by Aradhana Publications, a publishing house started by him.  About this book the famous scholar Sooranad Kunjan Pillai commented: a work based on the lofty ideas of Indian culture.  After its publication his attention soon turned to temple-based writings.

The history and legend of Sree Mahadevan Temple, Parassala, the beginning of Sree Krishna Temple, Neyyattinkara and the legend of Parasuvakkal Bhagavathi temple are topics of his later books.

Interpretation of Poonthanam’s Jnanappana is another notable work published by him 3 years ago.  His historical novel, ‘Chenkolum Umminithankayum’, depicts an episode of Travancore history.

He has shown his talent in versification also.  A collection of 40 poems titled, ‘Kalathinte Kavithakal’, 101 songs titled ‘Ganamalika’ and another collection of temple-based songs titled ‘Bhakthi Sayoojya’ are among his published works.  An interpretation of Geetha took him 2 years to complete.

He is currently writing a novel based on the cultural history of India.
