Selvan was a headload worker till the other day.  Now as an advocate he will perhaps carry legal tomes to the court room.

Son fish vendor Mable and headload worker late Laurance, Selvan had to struggle for his education up to degree level.  Though he obtained B.A degree in History and an ITI certificate, lack of job forced him to take up his father’s profession.  Later, a chance opportunity made him join the evening class at Govt.Law College.

Thus headload work in the daytime and legal studies in the evening progressed simultaneously.  Though he could not afford to own any text books, friends and teachers helped him in that regard.  Thus he graduated in Law.

In the meanwhile, though he was selected for a Government job, the malafide action of a Tahsildar forced him to lose that as he could not produce the non-creamy layer certificate in time.  But everything, it seems, has turned out for the best.

For now he will practice under Advocate Shaheed Ahmed of Kollam Bar.  Shaheed has promised him lodging too.

Selvan has 2 sisters.  His younger brother is an autorikshaw driver at Parassala.
